Hataraku Maou-Sama Final Thoughts

WHAT!? The Season’s Over Already?

I’m gonna miss Hataraku Maou Sama. White Fox carved out a series with some of the best comedic timing I’ve seen in a long time. When you have great timing coupled with interesting personalities who play well off each other, especially Maou and Ashiya, laughter is bound to ensue . MaouSama boasts some of the looniest and diverse reaction faces that will just have you on the floor at times. Some are angry, some are shock, some are sad but they’re all hilarious

What makes the show special though is how excellent the plot and comedy are integrated with each other; A harmony not easily achieved. For example during these climactic battles, you have this epic atmosphere and OST building up only for Maou to suddenly get hit in the face with an energy blast or Maou taking off his work uniform before fighting so he doesn’t ruin it. It’s these little moments that make the show stand out when it’s at its best

My only disappointment I have with this anime is how it starts off with its best arc then kind of tapers off as it progresses. MaouSama’s 2nd half is still funny but it never manages to fully capture what made the first half so freaking good. One could argue the climax of Sariel’s arc is almost a retread of the first, the main difference being Suzuno

Though the second half does somewhat stain what is overall a really great comedy, It remained consistent throughout and was a refreshing take on the fish out of water tale. I would gladly welcome a season 2

I agree, the first half felt a lot funnier and more cohesive in general than the second half, although overall I still found myself enjoying the whole thing. The flaws are fairly apparent I think, but it was still by far the funniest new anime to have come out in a long time. If push came to shove, I’d probably have to name it my favourite series from this season.

Yeah! The anime seemed a lot funnier from its beginning and it kinda lost it’s “climax” after each episode. I don’t know what u guys think but i hated the way it ended. Soooo lame.. imo I felt that I was watching some OVA instead of that final episode :/ “overall I still found myself enjoying the whole thing”. I would recommend it and I’m really gonna miss Hataraku but that ending looked so shabby 😦

Honestly, I couldn’t get through this entire show. I really really enjoyed it in the beginning, but it slowly turned into a generic rom-com harem anime. To me, the show was at its best when it was about Maou and Ashiya trying to adapt to the human world, much like immigrants in a new country. Once the show started shifting its focus away from that, I started losing interest. Maybe one day I’ll go back and finish it, but for now, I’m just too disappointed at what might have been.
