Hakaze doesn’t know the answer! Help her out by clicking the break and finding out my opinion on the subject
This question has been stirring in the back of my mind for a while now and I’m not asking what people’s tastes are in music whether it’s J-Pop, J-Rock, or something else different completely. For me, it’s always been if the OP or ED encompasses what the anime is about. Does it “feel” like the show I’m watching and get me excited about the series? It’s an abstract manner of describing it but there’s really no other way to put it otherwise.
Some recent examples:
Guren No Yumiya by Linked Horizon for Attack on Titan
I think this latest sensation resonated with a lot of people because it establishes the tone for the series with bombastic choirs and GAR chanting following suit into the show with lots of yelling and over the top dramatization of its characters
Hunting For Your Dream by Galneryus for Hunter x Hunter
The Yorknew Arc in Hunter x Hunter has the trappings of a crime thriller in its tale of revenge of Kurapika against the Phantom Troupe. By starting the song before segueing into the visuals, it sets up dramatic tension for the audience leaving them on the edge of their seats for next week.
Shinryaku no Susume by ULTRA-PRISM for Shinryaku Ika Musume
I’m not much of a J-Pop person however I couldn’t help but fall in love with this song. It’s goofy, upbeat, and ditzy! All adjectives that describe the anime and its title character perfectly.
What do you think makes for a good OP/ED? Do I just have shit taste? Feel free to put examples of some songs in the comments section below
